Description:
This Waffenfabrik M38 Mauser type, bolt action rifle will be a great addition to any firearms collection. This is a Swedish Mauser, which has been held up as the finest of all the rifles in the Mauser family due to the workmanship and materials used by the Swedes, to build the M98 and the M38 rifles. It is in very good condition and has some unique features. On top of the receiver there is a date of 1900, which based on research, may indicate that the rifle was built in 1900 and later modified from the M98 to the M38. Additionally, the bolt handle is straight indicating that this is an M98 that was modified with a shorter barrel and new bolt with the straight handle and the designation was changed to M38. The rifle has a Metallverken Vasteras micrometer tangent rear sight which is in perfect condition and is fully functional. The barrel is also threaded and has a thread protector installed. The stock is in very good condition only normal wear due to use. On the right side of the stock you will see the brass unit disk which tells us several things about this particular M38. First, the disk is divided into three sections which describe holdover, barrel condition and the bore condition. The Tarped, (torpedo or boat tailed bullet) Overslag (overstrike) section generally contains a number which describes the holdover need when aiming the rifle. A number one would mean that you would need to holdover ten centimeters at 100 meters to be on target. This disk does not contain a number indicating that no holdover is needed. The bore condition is listed as a 1 which is the best listing and the third section indicates the bore diameter which is listed as a 9. Additionally, the original dope chart is still affixed to the stock next to the unit disk providing the ranging and holdover information out to 600 meters. The rifle has a 25 inch barrel and the rifle is chambered in the 6.5x55 cartridge, said to be one of the best combat rounds out to 600 meters ever made. All of the metal surfaces are in very good condition. This is a great rifle for the serious collector or those who love the Mauser family of firearms. This Mauser weighs in at just over 9 pounds. Please review the attached photographs to appreciate the beauty of this historic firearm.
