Description:
The NRA made these rifles available to only their members from 1924 to 1933. This example is dated March of 1930 and is serial numbered 1343212. The Springfield Armory only produced 6500 of these rifles using the best materials and workmanship available at that time. They came with a Lyman #48 receiver sight, a National Match quality action, and a hand selected "Star Gauge" barrel. The nickel steel bolt is numbered to the receiver denoting that it has been hand fit to that particular action. Money could not buy a better rifle made during this time period and many accuracy records were set with this combination of parts in various configurations. Many collectors and shooters feel that these rifles were the absolute pinnacle of Springfield's match rifle production.
The condition of this NRA Sporter is excellent with a mirror bright bore, 95% original blue finish remaining, and an excellent condition original stock. This rifle is completely original with the exception of the front target sight, and the modified original butt plate. The original front sight blade was replaced with a "drop in" globe target sight with a post. This could easily be changed back to the original blade sight as the dovetailed base does not appear to be modified. The original butt plate which used to be cupped, has been ground into a flat plate and re-fitted to the stock. These Springfield NRA Sporters do not come along often, and no "National Match" and/or Springfield 1903 collection is complete without one.
