Description:
This has to be one of the nicest conditioned 1st year production Winchester Model 54s in existence!  Winchester made the Model 54 rifle from 1925 until the introduction of the Model 70 in 1936.  A total of just a little over 50,000 were made including all the variations during those 11 years.  This was the top of the line centerfire rifle that Winchester offered at that time.  They were built with the best materials available by the most skilled workers that Winchester employed.  This Winchester Model 54 is serial number 282, not only first year production but likely the first month or two of production!  It is chambered in .270 Winchester cartridge which was also introduced for the first time to the commercial market in 1925!  The Winchester Model 54 was the first commercial rifle chambered in .270 Winchester.  This Model 54 shows no signs of having been carried in the field and very little sign of even having been fired.  It is apparent that this rifle has spent almost it's entire life in storage.  The original Winchester factory blue finish rates a solid 98% on all of the finished parts except for the buttplate and the bolt body.  The bolt body has had the blue finish polished off at some point in this rifle's life, and the metal buttplate has some light pitting from the rifle being stored upright somewhere with some moisture content on the floor.  The bolt is electropenciled with the numbers "454" on the bottom of the bolt, visible by removing it from the rifle.  This does not match the serial number of the rifle, 282; but is also a 3-digit serial number which is interesting.  The floorplate and trigger guard are nearly perfect.  The floorplate screws even retain 98% of their original case colors.  The bore on this rifle is minty and bright.  The 24 inch barrel has strong rifling with sharp lands and grooves, and there are no signs of pitting or erosion.  The factory original American Walnut stock is also spectacular.  It has no signs of carry or wear, and is free from cracks or repairs.  It has the original sling swivel mounts factory installed also in excellent condition.  This 54 has a period Lyman receiver sight installed in the factory drilled and tapped receiver and a rear sight blank installed on the barrel.  Everything works 100% like new, like the day it left the Winchester factory in 1925.  If you have been looking for a exceptional early production Winchester Model 54 this would be an excellent choice.
