Description: This is a nice looking sword, very close in design to the French Model 1821, and measures 35 1/2" overall with a 29 5/8" curved, single-edged blade having etched panels on the forte, and wide and narrow fullers. The steel has an overall bright gray patina with some very faint freckling within the fullers on both sides. The panels depict floral and martial motifs with central Swiss cross in sunburst in the center. The maker's name and location are marked in script along a band that runs perpendicular to the blade, just above the ricasso: “A. Brust – a Aarau" (Aarau is the capital of the canton of Aargau). The hilt has an overall bright gold-ochre patina with some of the original gold wash remaining on protected areas. The scabbard has light crazing and flaking along its length, along with some tarnish on the throat and chape. Included with the sword are an original bullion sword portepee, as well as a large, removable shag bumper. This is a handsome Swiss military sword, seldom seen in the U.S. SOLD Manufacturer: Swiss Model: Sword |
