Description:
NSN, .58 caliber, 40" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some light freckling within the grooves near the muzzle. This is a Type I rifle-musket that has an 1863 dated lockplate and matching date barrel. The metal has and overall darkly freckled brown patina with hints of gray along the barrel and lock, but the markings are still clear and legible. There is some mild pitting and freckling around the nipple and bolster with some darker mottling on the hammer. The walnut stock is likewise in very good condition with an added oil finish over scattered minor handling marks and sanded wood that has rendered the inspector's cartouche illegible, but still visible. A correct and matching condition tulip-headed ramrod is also included. This is a very good-near fine example of a correct, and war dated U.S. musket, and would make a great addition to any collection. Antique
