Description:
Antique 1st Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver Artillery Model

With Both a Colt Factory Archive and John A. Kopec Letter

Here we present an antique 1st Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver Artillery Model, made in 1877 per the factory letter. The Colt Single Action Army is a worldwide icon of the United States of America and the Western Frontier. Wielded by both the worst of men and the best, the famous Single Action Army is also well-known as the Peacemaker.

The Artillery or Springfield Armory Model of the SAA is a period (1895-1903) armory or factory refinished gun to extend U.S. military service. Only about 17,000 of these refurbished guns were completed. In all but the rarest variant of the already rare Artillery Model, the serial numbers will be mixed. Many of these saw action in the Spanish-American War and the Philippine-American War.

This specimen is “U.S.” property marked on the frame. The Colt factory archive letter states that serial number 35357 was chambered in .45 Colt, blued and sold to the U.S. Government on February 13, 1877 in a shipment of 200. The John A. Kopec letter thoroughly examines each part of the gun and gives the final assessment as an authentic Colt U.S. Artillery Model that was most likely issued at one time to Troop C of the 5th U.S. Cavalry. The entire letter may be read in the photos section of this listing.

The overall condition of this example is good. The patina is a dark gray with just a small amount of original blue in crevices. Most markings are still present and legible, with the barrel address being slightly worn. This gun was government inspected by O.W. Ainsworth, Lt. David A. Lyle, John T. Cleveland, and A.P. Casey, all of whose marks are still visible. The bore is in good condition and the action is very good.

This revolver includes both the Colt factory archive letter and the John A. Kopec letter, each with unique information and each on letterhead, embossed and signed. The Colt letter has been immortalized in plastic lamination.

This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 5.5 inches in length.

Caliber: .45 Colt

Bore is in good condition. The firearm is in excellent working order.

Overall condition as seen in photos.

Here is a very representative example of a Colt Artillery with all the letters you could ever want.
