Description:
Manufactured by Simeon North of Middletown, Connecticut. Approximately 10,500 units produced (1844-1853). a.k.a. Side Lever Hall. Breechblock markings U.S./S.NORTH/MIDLTN/CONN/1851 Has inspector cartouche on both sides of stock. Barrel is rifled and believed to be one of 5,000 units that were retrofitted in the infamous “Hall Carbine Affair”. Note: bore gauge indicates .52 caliber while historical reference suggests the retrofit barrels were .58 caliber.
Originally finished with brown laquer and casehardened breech this specimen retains very little of the original finish.
