Description:
Original Civil War Spencer Model 1860 Repeating Army Rifle, serial number 22XXX,. 52 Spencer with 6-groove rifled bore with original 7 shot tube fed magazine, 30” round barrel on full length walnut stock secured with 3 barrel bands, brass blade front sight & military ladder rear sight graduated to 800 yards. Top of breech retains partial Spencer address & patent date. This rifle is 1 of 11,470 delivered starting in 1863-1865 making it much rarer than the carbine version also used during the conflict & was used by Custer’s 5th Michigan Cavalry at Gettysburg. Good condition overall, metal surfaces have been cleaned leaving little traces of original finish. Stock is good with typical scattered use marks throughout with other unidentified markings. Mechanically sound with crisp action & good bore. Overall a Solid example of a Civil War Spencer Army rifle that undoubtedly saw action during the conflict.
