Savage, lever action DELUXE TAKEDOWN rifle, Model 99, WITH TWO BARRELS, .250-3000 (aka .250 Savage) PLUS A .22 H. P. BARREL, s/n 190433 (Mfg. 1917),
ONE OF THIRTY MODEL 99 SAVAGES JUST RELEASED FROM A PRIVATE 99 COLLECTION, FINAL RELEASE, NEVER GUN SHOWED AROUND,
THIS RIFLE COMES WITH A LETTER OF AUTHENTICATION DATED 1994 FROM ROE S. CLARK WHO WAS THE SAVAGE HISTORIAN AT THAT TIME.
MR. CLARK INDICATES THAT THE RIFLE WAS MFG. IN MAY, 1917 AND SHIPPED TO SIMMONS HARDWARE COMPANY IN ST. LOUIS, MO.
RECEIVER: TAKEDOWN, internal rotary magazine, brass cartridge counter and magazine follower, loaded cocking indicator on top tang, safety by lever, top tang factory drilled and tapped for tangent sight, front of receiver non-factory d&t with filler screws, metal on receiver features a high polish full cover reblue exhibiting light minor storage scratches, lever exhibits some minor tarnish and retains 50-60% original case colors, lever boss code "M" in a circle,
BARREL: round, 22” length, original caliber according to letter .250-3000 (aka .250 Savage) which was manufactured in this caliber only as a TAKEDOWN at that time, rifling is EXCELLENT, exhibits a noticeable "shadow ring" about 1” in from muzzle which should not affect accuracy (A "shadow ring" is a noticable powder burn produced when there was an obstruction in the barrel and another round was fired before clearing the obstruction. Unlike a "ringed" barrel clearing the obstruction by firing another round does not bulge the barrel or damage the rifling.).,
ALSO INCLUDED IN THE SALE IS AN EXTRA SAVAGE FACTORY BARREL: ROUND, 20” LONG, IN .22 HP CALIBER, IT RETAINS 100% OF ITS ORIGINAL BLUE AND IS IN 100% CONDITION. IT FEATURES AN OPEN REAR ELEVATOR SIGHT AND A SMALL INTEGRAL RAMP FRONT SIGHT W/ A SMALL BLADE. EXCELLENT BORE,
STOCK: Walnut, PERCH BELLY, PISTOL GRIP WITH CAP, factory 131/8” L.O.P. over grooved steel buttplate featuring the early Savage Indian logo, Schnabel forearm, buttstock and forearm retain original finish with some handling marks, factory checkering on both buttstock and forearm is EXCELLENT,
