Description: Charles Lancaster opened for business in the London trade as a barrel maker in 1811. He was considered one of the best and supplied barrels for John and Joseph Manton, James Purdey, and others. It was in approximately 1822 when history shows us that Charles was making complete sporting arms. The company has a very long and respected history that is quite fascinating. Go to: ://nramuseum/guns/the-galleries/modern-firearms-1950-to-present/case-57-still-more-guns/charles-lancaster-percussion-combination-gun.aspx This little 20 gauge had great dimensions, weight and balance. The 28 barrels swing nicely and allow one to follow through, unlike some of the shorter barrel guns that can be (not always!) whippy. The London style rose and scroll engraving is of very high quality. I believe this gun would be a super upland gun, one that could be carried all day without a drag on the arm but with enough heft to do the job it was built for. *** Note: To see this gun with high resolution photos and a zoom-in feature, go to the vintagedoubles main site and search for the gun ID: 3406 or browse the main site to see our full gun collection. |
