Description:
Offered is an original Colt Bankers Special that remains in 97-98% condition and includes the original box and paperwork. It is in excellent mechanically condition and the bore is perfect. This gun dates to a 1934 manufacture date. The original checkered walnut grips are near new and are serialized to the gun with a stamped number on the back (See Photo). Also included are copies of a Colt factory ad and copies of two Colt brochures from the 1930's. The Colt Bankers Special was introduced by Colt in 1928 and was built on the Police Positive frame and fitted with a 2” barrel. They were serialized with the Police Positive revolvers and the serial numbers started in the 177000 range and continued up to about 400,000. Production on the Bankers Special ended with the outbreak of WWII and none were made after the war. It is chambered in the .38 New Police or .38 S&W cartridge. The 1930 Colt catalog had this to say: "The Bankers Special is a light gun made for easy carrying and quick access, which fit readily into the side coat or trousers pocket, yet has the ample Colt grip which insures steadiness. This Arm has successfully passed all Colt reliability and durability test, and, while primarily designed for close range, is surprisingly accurate up to 15 or 20 yards.” The 1930 catalog had the Bankers Special .38 priced at $27.00. Today they have brought over $5000 for original ones that are in the box. The Bankers Special is one of, if not the, most sought after pre war double action revolver. I offer a three day non firing inspection period and always want the buyer to be satisfied with their purchase. The gun will be packed correctly and shipped via FedEx Air with insurance to your FFL dealer in the continental United States for $55 (California is extra because I have to ship through my local dealer). This gun requires a C&R or FFL license for transfer. I ship the following day after the payment arrives and provide tracking information.
