Guide Lamp Div. U. S. Mdl. FP-45. Cal. .45ACP
(Also known as the Liberator or Woolworth Pistol) These guns were designed to be dropped to Partisan units in countries occupied by the Axis powers. The theory was to give them something that they could use to secure better weaponry from the enemy and then pass it on to another partisan. It was thought that should so poorly made that the enemy would not use them if they fell in to their hands. They were dropped in wax covered boxes with a ten picture cartoon sheet showing how to operate the gun, 10 .45 ACP bullets and a wooden dowel for ejecting the cartridges. The cost of manufacture was $2.10 each.
This gun is complete with the sometimes-missing floor plate. Its condition is remarkable considering there was no preservative put on the metal. It just has a very mild scattered patina starting to form.
All parts are there and the gun function properly.
The barrel is steel tube with no rifling.
This is an authentic U.S. made WW II that does not show up often and no collection is complete without one. A real "let tell you about this one" gun. .......$1895
