J P Sauer & Sons true sidelock Drilling.  The 26 ¾” barrels are chambered for 16x16x8mm Mauser and this gun was proof dated 3/25 so it is chambered for the modern 8mmJS R. The 16 gauge barrels are chambered for 2 ¾” shells so my guess is that the chambers were lengthened at some time.  Bright/shiny bores are the typical .660” diameter with chokes of .014 and .020”, Mod/Im-Mod.  The top of the barrels were built to accommodate a claw mount for a scope that I do not have.  The sidelock frame/action is handsomely engraved with finely cut game scenes.  A fox, doe and two fawns are depicted on the left side and a red stag buck and two ducks are on the right side.  The bottom and other areas are covered in fine scroll.  Traces of case colors remain on the frame, otherwise faded to a bright coin finish.  The locks have cocking indicators and the safety is integrated into the left sidelock. The action has two underlug locks, a cross bolt third fastener and side clips making it incredibly tight and solid.  The barrels retain 97% original blue with just a few minor “rubs” and a touch of muzzle wear.  The stock features a raised cheek piece and it has been fitted with a Pachmayr pad and spacers for a 14 5/8” LOP.  (The LOP to the end of the stock is 13 3/8”; you could remove the existing pad and spacers, replace with a 1” leather pad and have a 14 3/8” LOP.)  The stock finish is 97% and the checkering is very fine with one “ding” on the bottom right side of the grip (see last photo). This drilling weighs 7 lbs. 12 oz.  Beautiful drilling, that is somewhat rare as a true sidelock and in a great caliber/gauge combination.
