F W Heym Drilling, 16x16x8mm Mauser. The barrel locking lug is stamped F W Heym; whether or not they made the action is just a guess on my part. The top of the barrels are engraved “Wecker & Schumacher”, Franfurt A/M, but I believe that they would have been a retailer or distributor. The action is a very typical “Guild” style scalloped action with side clips and third fastener. Stag and doe engraved on the left side with Roe deer on the right side and tasteful scroll and floral engraving on the rest of the frame. There are good remnants of case colors remaining on the frame. The 26 ¾” barrels have 2 ½” chambers, .675” bore diameters and .020” & .035” chokes (M & F). I have searched and cannot find a proof date! In the shotgun barrels other than four spots of light pitting about 3” ahead of the chamber on the left tube the bores are bright and perfect. 95-97% original barrel blue. There is a claw mount on top of the barrels but the mount itself does not exist, often New England Custom Gun can find mounts that fit! Stock and forearm have original finishes with both pieces showing a number of light handling marks but no chips, cracks or damage. The buttstock has a hinged cartridge compartment, raised cheek piece, 14 1/8” LOP to the horn buttplate. The horn trigger guard is cracked through at the front screw but it is secure. It weighs 7 lbs. 4 oz.
