Description: SALE PENDING ! National Match - See "The M-1903 Spg. Rifle & its variation by Joe Poyer +(northCape prod 2013) Pages 34,35 & 82. This Springfield M-1903, 30-06 was mfg in 1905 w/the barrel AV Flaming Bomp date of 11-18. It has all of the correct cartouches on the stock w/the circle "P" directly behind the trigger hsg. and initials of the the Springfield Armory "DAL for Davis A. Lyle Chief Inspector from 1916 -1942 (Info fr The M-1903 Spg Rifle & its variations by Joe Poyer) are on the Left side of the stock near the receiver. The Wood is in very good condition and appears original. It has some very light handling marks. I would say a 87-92% condition or NRA very fine. The metal is the proper darker color for the Bilt, receiver and matches the barrel w/the dating upgrade of 11-18 and Flaming Bomb. The front sight is the higher grade wrap around (See p 24 &34), the book discuses' the "wrap around sight". US Gov't issue suggesting that this was used for issues possibly including sniping.or even a National Match firearm. This would be reasonable due to the T - 4 Butt Plate (See Pic) which is often called the "National Match Butt Plate". This butt plate was installe on the National Match Rifles and the first 6000 rifles not sold through the Dir of the civilian marksmanship program. Also, this type 4 Butt Plate was installed on all USMC M-1902A1 sniper rifles assembled by the Marine Corp. armorers at the Philadelphia Navy yard. It was in use from 1915-1939 and again in 1941 for use ny the Marines for sniper duty. Mfg only by Springfield The bore is clean , mirror -like w/a very visible twist . The bluing overal is 90-95% . This is of collector quality and is a very unique M-1903. This writer does not represent this M-1903 as an official national match rifle. However many features on this rifle indicate strong possibilities of same.
