S&W, Early 1900s. This is a five shot revolver in nickel finish that is in remarkable condition for its 100 year old age. It was used by a Chicago Police Detective in the early 1900s and then stored on a top closet shelf until it was discoverd by the great grand children. The original grips on the revolver are broken as you can see in the photographs, but can easily be replaced with original or reproduction grips at a very reasonable price. The finish on the revolver I would say is good to very good given its age, but this is subjective. Take a close look at the photographs. The mechanics of the revolver seem to be very good to excellent with every thing being tight and crisp and operating smoothly. I see no signs of stress at the vulnerable points on the frame. The barrel grooves are sharp and distinct with little or no pitting. I am not sure which H&R variation this revolver is, but the serial number stamped on the base of the handle is 95562. The top of the barrel is stamped: RICHARDSON ARMS CO.,WORCESTER,MASS.,U.S.A. AUGUST 6,1889 OCTOBER 8, 1895 The left side of the 2" barrel is stamped: 38 CAL. S.&W. CTGE. The ejector and the back of the cylinder are both stamped 562 I have not fired this revolver due to not having the proper ammunition. However, on the close inspection I have given it, it should be a good shooter. Not only a good shooter, but also the rarity of a 2" barrel and a hammerless trigger. The mechanisms of top break revolvers have always intrigued me. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: Harrington & Richardson Serial Number: 95562 Caliber Info: .38 S&W Ctge.
