BRITISH PATTERN 1821 or 1822 ARTILLERY OFFICER'S SWORD AND SCABBARD. No makers name that I can make out so probably with acid etching. Found in old Civil War collection so possible US connection. 34" single fullered blade with acid etching on both side as well as laurel etching on back of blade. Etching too faint to make out motif but better light will reveal extensive pattern and possibly name. Can make out armorial of some type but ?. Straight blade with patches of salt and pepper that will clean better. No dings in unsharpened false edge. Original leather covered grip with fine four strand braided grip wrap wire intact. Original leather washer under added one very old. Steel guard with traces of silver plating very good with no dings or bends. Correct steel scabbard with one or two dents and hole at drag where rusted through. Affordable addtion to sword collection that has not been refinished and only needs some TLC.
