Offered for sale is a very fine German sporting rifle. Bbl marks as follows W. Bein, Salzwedel, Elektrostahl, mod 98.57jand a proof mark of St.m.G. My research shows Salzwedel as a town between Hamburg and Magdeburg. The proof mark indicates steel jacketed bullet. 57J as the caliber 8x57J ? This rifle has very good quality checkering. Gold highlighted engraving and bluing is 90% plus. See last photo for a stock repair that appears to be original to the rifle since the checkering extends into the splice. Flip down rear site. Overall a very nice rifle of quality workmanship. I could not find any information on Bein except for a parts gun sold at an house a few years ago.
