Description: Another history snippet today on some of the Spanish firearms we have here at the gunroom. A Spanish Mauser 93 bearing the crest of the Guardia Civil or Civil Guard in 7.52 and the Astra modelo 400 in 9mm Largo. Recently during my studies I came across this picture of a militiawoman from the Spanish Civil War, holding what looks like a Mauser(doesn’t look like a 93 from what I can tell) and perchance a 1919(the front sight and short grip looks fitting). Unfortunately, we do not have a Star model 1919 but we do have an Astra model 400 which was the “standard” issue sidearm for the Spanish Army during the Spanish civil war. As mentioned before the Mauser holds the crest of the Guardia Civil or as they were known during the time the Guardia Nacional Republicana - “National Republic Guard”. During the Civil war the Civil Guard, like the whole country, divided pretty evenly between the Republicans and the Nationalists. Both the Mauser 93 and the Astra 400 were around during this turbulent time in Spain’s, and in consequence, the world’s history. Just another piece of history for sale here at The Gun Room.
