Rare CIVIL WAR Antique SHARPS 1862 Army Carbine

Here we present an antique Sharps & Hankins Model 1862 Army Carbine. The total number of the Army Carbine was only 500. Made from 1862-65, the bulk of production including the more numerous Navy Carbine was still only 8,000. The Sharps & Hankins 1862 Army Carbine is one of the most scarce Civil War carbine encountered.
The shape of the carbine is distinctly Sharps, and operates a bit differently than other carbines of the era. The trigger guard doubles as a lever, which is opened by pressing a small tab inside the smaller loop of the lever. Opening the lever slides the barrel away from the recoil shield for loading and unloading. It has a great elevating rear sight and brass butt-plate.
This specimen is in very good condition. The barrel bears some of the original finish with a brown patina making up the balance. There markings on the frame are a little shy as it looks as though it was polished and blued at some point. The walnut stock is smooth, with a crack on the left side. The bore is sharply rifled and clean. The action is strong.
