Triplett & Scott Condition: Barrel has 95% of the bright blue; frame has 20-30% case colors, with balance silvering out, and a little discoloration. Wood is excellent with only a very few dents and dings, bore is excellent with 90% of rifling and shiny with a little corrosion, works mechanically well. Serial # 923. An exceptional/excellent condition triplett & Scott Carbine for shooter/collector.

Triplett & Scott Repeating Carbine. Made by the Meriden Manufacturing Company, Meriden, Connecticut, c. 1864-1865. Total quantity estimated 5,000. 50 caliber rimfire. Seven-shot magazine tube in butt. Unusual loading action: depressing latch in frame behind hammer allows barred to twist in circular motion to come in line with magazine protruding through butt. 30” round barrel (3,000 estimated). Iron mountings with single barrel bank for forend. Sling swivels on the underside as well as heel of butt. Barrel, sights, and tubular socket blued with receiver and other parts casehardened.
 
            Markings: On tang TRIPLETT & SCOTT/PATENT DEC. 6, 1864 on left side of receiver MERIDEN MAN’FG CO. /MERIDEN, CONN, with serial number on right side. Marked Kentucky left side breech. A contract for 5,000 Triplett & Scott carbines was executed January 2, 1865, with the state of Kentucky to arm 5,000 Home Guard troops mustered into service to protect the supply lines of the Union Army under General W.T. Sherman, then engaged in the Atlanta Campaign. They were received too late for service in the Civil War. Markings believed to be inspector’s noted on most N.W.B. in small block letters on left side of stock near buttplate.
