Description:
For sale, a beautifully constructed vintage custom half-stock muzzleloader in .45 caliber. This rifle is completely unmarked but shows a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. It has a 28 inch octagon barrel that is relatively heavy, and a percussion lock. The metal parts appear to be browned and have developed a very pleasing patina over the last few decades. While the style is very basic it is very well executed. The brass trigger guard is nicely shaped and nice and tight to the stock, and the brass crescent buttplate also has clean lines and is fit very nicely to the stock. The hammer has two cocked positions, a half cock (safety), and full cock. The trigger breaks cleanly with a light pull weight. The Walnut stock is in great condition overall with one visible flaw, a very minor hairline crack that extends from the back of the lockplate about 1 inch. It may have been fixed already as we cannot get the wood to separate any there. The stock is capped at the barrel end with a pewter/alloy tip that adds some nice contrast to the rifle. The sights consist of a notched rear blade dovetailed into the barrel, and a brass front blade also dovetailed in. This rifle is complete with a ramrod and everything works 100% like it was designed to. This is a very nice muzzleloader that is both simple and attractive. It would make an excellent hunting rifle or even a classy looking decorator.
