Description:
Sold pending Funds /  Colt U.S. Model 1860 Army Percussion Revolver, serial # 28918, cal. 44 cal, 7 3/4" barrel with a fair-poor bore. The metal surfaces are dark gray mixed with plum brown patina and overall light pinprick pitting, the barrel with some minor impact marks here and there but nothing alarming. The New York address is still visible and the right side of the muzzle shows holster wear. The cylinder scene is no longer visible and there are some areas of moderate pitting on the cylinder. The trigger guard has toned to a goldenrod patina and shows minor dings and handling marks with a few tool marks. The smooth walnut grip rates very good with minor dings and handling marks, most prominent on the butt, showing light but evident left and right side cartouches. The grip is from a different revolver but the frame, trigger guard and back strap are numbered alike, barrel lug is numbered "28954" the cylinder number can no longer be discerned. The arbor shows a period repair and the un-numbered wedge shows numerous impact and peening marks in an attempt no doubt to tighten its fit. This example is a four-screw frame with the back strap cut for shoulder stock, the lugs being slightly peened. The revolver functions mechanically and has a very "been there done that" look and clearly saw Civil War use. Its overall condition is good as described and photographed.  Inv.: # 12-146
