Description:
UNTOUCHED 1853 Enfield with, 1861 "Tower" marking.

INCREDIBLE find! This is as close as you'll see to what a Civil War gun that's seen combat truly looks like...it has never been cleaned or touched in any way. You won't find a purer example of a 3 Band Enfield than this!

Most of the arms imported from Great Britain were the pattern 1853 Rifle Musket. The Confederacy purchased 5000 short Enfield rifles in 1861 from various English gun makers, this rifle has a five point red star engraved on the stock. The lock is marked "TOWER" with an 1861 date and crown symbol behind the hammer without the "V.R." for Queen Victoria Regina...correct for a Civil War import. The barrel is stamped with dual "25" gauge marks. The hammer still has the two back positions, half cock (safety position) and full cock.  Like many Enfields, it's missing the ramrod, rear sight, and swivels. NOTE: Normally, unlike most Towers, many of the London firms including did not stamp the bore sizes "25" (.577 caliber) on the left side of the barrel...this rifle is no exception...these were stamped underneath the wood on the bottom of the barrels.

This makes a great, and unique, display piece. Please ask any and all questions before . It is my goal to make sure that you have all of the necessary information and are happy with your purchase.

Finish is brown patina
Wood has minor cracks/chips
Mechanics work well
Bore is rusty

Estimated $550 - $650 value, though adding a set of original swivels and a ramrod would increase value to $1000 - $1200. I think it's ideal as is for a pure Civil War rifle!
