Description:
Serial #8896, .50 Caliber, 21 1/2" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. The barrel has retained 95-97% of the original blue with mild plum-brown freckling and some fading at the muzzle. The frame likewise has a commensurate amount of the original bright color case-hardening with some very mild fading in spots and some scattered light freckling. About 50-60% of the original bright nitre blue remains on the barrel lock spring and the brass opener has a dark yellow-ochre patina. The walnut stock and forend have an old coating of protectant over the original military oil finish with scattered small handling marks that has left the inspector cartouche still crisp on the left side of the wrist. The barrel lock-up is still rock solid and the mechanism is tight and fully functional. This is a terrific looking Smith, in excellent condition, and would make a great example for a collection.
