New England Musket 16-101

“New England” Flintlock Militia Musket Dated 1822-NSN. 69 cal., 39-1/4 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. This militia style flintlock musket has a civilian sporting style lock marked “Adams” below the pan with floral and burst engraving patterns on the exterior and ‘LA” stamp inside partially obscured by the mainspring, a small blade front sight, bayonet lug on the bottom of the barrel, barrel, brass fittings, and “P”, “M”, “TA”, and “1822” marks on the left side at the breech. Like many civilian arms, there are no sling swivels. Many militia weapons were built using surplus military components in conjunction with newly made or on hand civilian components after the War of 1812. Like many civilian arms, there are no sling swivels.

CONDITION: Very good with fairly even brown patina on the barrel and lock, pitting concentrated around t the vent, spots of oxidation, a few tool marks, and aged patina on the brass. The stock is also very good with mild dings and scratches and a few absent chips/silver. The lock needs some minor work to the sear and/or tumbler to allow proper hold at full cock.
