Description:
SOLD...Antique 1889 Marlin. 38-40. Fine bore. Here is a nice ole 1889 Marlin. Priced very reasonable. It has the standard 24" octagon barrel. It is in the best shooting caliber 38-40. S/N 90529 and made in 1893. The bore is very good with very strong and deep rifling that these Marlins have. Rifling is deep all the way to the muzzle and is NOT washed out at the muzzle like so many of these antique rifles are from the metal cleaning rods used in the day.Just shows minor frosting in the groves with no major pitting at all. NO rings or bulges. It shoots great with no backed out primers or bulged cases. The mechanics are excellent and it feeds, fires and ejects just fine. The ejection of course is a little weak as all of these 89 Marlins are but it still kickes the empty cases out of the receiver. The hammer notches are correct and positive and not worn or broken as many of these are found. The two main flaws in these 89's are weak ejection and worn or broken hammer notches. All is just fine on this one with NO issues. All the markings are excellent. The rear sight has a later replacement as you can see but the front sight is the original rocky mountain style. The metal is smooth with no pitting and is a aged gray color. The wood is very nice. The forearm has no splits or cracks and fits tight to the metal. No damage at all..The butt stock is nice but shows a little swelling at the wrist on the left side as you can see in the photo. NO splits, cracks or damage at all and still has great color as does the forearm. Just nice looking wood on this one. The screw heads show some minor turning but still nice and not all burred up and all are serviceable. All in all, this is a nice looking 89 at a very reasonable price. It has a great bore for shooting and still a very nice entry grade collector that is on a budget. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping. Please check back often as I will be listing more guns soon.
