Description:
The bore in this rifle is excellent, with strong lands and grooves.  I have scrubbed the bore completely clean with Colt 45 scrub pad slivers, as spiral-wrapped around a 30 caliber brass bristle brush.  Bore grease was applied afterward, to preserve this nice bore.

The action functions crisply as it should, and the hammer safety notch is not broken.  The original saddle ring is intact.  All markings are strong, including the “Model 1894” etc. on the upper tang, the Winchester proof on the action ring, and serial number.  The frame is mostly a smooth gray, with traces of original blue.  The serial number 601072 indicates manufactured in 1912.

The 20” barrel is marked “30 W.C.F.” and “Nickel Steel Barrel / Especially For Smokeless Powder”.  The Winchester two-line address is also boldly stamped on this barrel.  The barrel is generally a smooth gray, but there are some scattered places on the forward left side where pitting is present.  There are no banged-up places on any of the metal surfaces: barrel, magazine tube, receiver and its components, or buttplate.

The wood stocks are generally even or proud to the adjacent metal surfaces.  The crescent butt was on this carbine when purchased, and based on the presence of dried oil and grime that was packed between the tangs and wood, it has been there a long time.  The fore end and buttstock have random dings from normal ranch use.

Overall this is a decent Winchester M1894 Saddle Ring Carbine, in the desirable 30-30 caliber, priced to sell quickly.
