Description:
Cal 50-70 U.S. Govt. 32-1/2" bbl, tompion and folding ladder rear sight. This is one of 30 rifles sent to the Beardslee Mfg. and Nickel Co. to experiment with nickel plating to increase corrosion resistance. They were then issued to various Army units for field trials. Letters from Springfield Research Service and Office of Machine Shop, National Armory, Springfield Mass accompany this rifle. Metal retains most nickel plating with some freckling. Markings are good. Action functions well. Overall wood is good condition with a repair on the right side forearm and typical dings and dents. This rifle is an extraordinary piece of History and would be a great addition to any collection!
