Description:
Mahrholdt Peterlongo 12 Gauge Over/Under Shotgun
OVER/UNDER, 1949, ELABORATE CARVING, FINE ENGRAVING

General Specs: Mahrholdt Peterlongo, Year 1949, 12 Gauge, 6lbs 12oz, O&U
Serial Number: 2148-49

Johann Peterlongo was a well-known Austrian gunmaker until his death in 1898, at which time Richard Mahrholdt took over the business until his death in 1949, when his son and eventually grandson would continue to make fine sporting arms until sometime in the 1970’s when the business ceased operations.  These were highly developed firearms built to the highest specifications and have been cherished in Europe for over a century.  This gun, sn2148-49 made in 1949, is a fine example of the work regularly executed by this Austrian firm, including exceptional wood carvings; deep, shaded, finely hand-cut engraving with game scenes; beautifully struck barrels; fancy scallop-backed frame with rebates for the stock; Kersten double cross bolt with double underbolt lugs and through frame barrel lug for that super-strong lock up guns in this region were famous for, and a very light 6 3/4lbs. to make carrying afield all day long a breeze.  What a gorgeous gun in super-high factory original condition ready for your upland or sporting clays challenges.  The only flaw is a pad that is not “right”.  The lop with a proper butt plate would be just over 14 ¼”, or we could install a solid rubber pad or leather covered pad…your choice should you choose to have us dress her up a bit.  The gun is in superb mechanical condition with strong well-timed ejectors, auto safety, tight lock-up, and mirror perfect bores.  These guns are not often seen and are a great bargain for an ultra-light over/under field guns with elaborate wood carvings and engravings.  Thanks for looking!
