Description:
SOLD...Antique Colt 1878 Model double action revolver. Here is a decent and CHEAP 1878 Colt DA. Gun has a 5 1/2" barrel and is in .45 Colt caliber. The barrel on this gun looks like it is off of a Colt Artillery revolver SAA as it has the "P" and RAC inspectors marking {see photos}. Markings are excellent throughout. Looks like this barrel has been on this gun for a very long time from the amount of crud that is around the barrel and frame on the inside and outside areas. S/N matching on frame 22757 and cylinder 757 with no number on the barrel under the ejector housing which would be correct on a Artillery barrel. The gun was MFG in 1889. The cylinder also has a 243 on the rear face. The mechanics are excellent with the cylinder locking up like new when the trigger is pulled and hammer drops in the odd way these 1878's lock up using the ratchet hand for lock up with no locking notches on the cylinder. The gun is a matching dark brown patina throughout with no pitting. The left side of the frame has some very old file marks {see photos} as does the left side of the front sight. Not real deep or detracting but are there and I want a honest detailed description. Probably from a very old over agressive cleaning years ago. The bore is very nice and should clean to excellent with a little crud in the groves that will clean out I am sure. Nice sharp rifling all the way through with no pitting. The grips are original and very nice as well and a perfect factory fit with NO chips or cracks and match the gun perfectly. The loading gate knob has a screw slot cut in it for some reason or may be replaced {see photo}. It works perfectly and is tight with no issues. Still retains the original lanyard loop on the butt. Not a bad ole 1878 and the barrel on this gun is probably worth $500 or more to the Colt Artillery fellows out there. The grips are worth $200 alone so you can do the math and buy the whole gun at a very good price. Would make a very nice cheap shooter or entry collector or a very nice parts gun. Either way it is for sale reasonable so don't miss this one. Still a very pleasing looking gun. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $25 insured shipping. Please check back often as I will be listing more antique firearms soon.
