Description:
Unaltered Spencer Model 1860 Saddle Ring Carbine, Early production serial number range 12,XXX puts this Spencer with the first Government contract delivered October 1863. Features original 6-Groove rifled bore in .52 Spencer, 22” round barrel, 7 shot magazine fed with blade front sight & military ladder rear sight. Standard markings remain visible with Spencer address & patent date on top of breech, “SPENCER REPEATING /RIFLE CO. BOSTON. MASS. / PAT’D MARCH 6. 1860.” Faint cartouche on left side of stock above saddle ring plate. In good plus condition overall with metal showing a nice aged patina with some pitting on lever. Walnut stocks are good with a 3” crack on left side of buttstock & a repaired 2” crack on right rear forearm. Mechanically sound with crisp action & good bore showing strong rifling. Overall a solid example with early serial number range that undoubtedly saw action during the conflict.
