Description:
Winchester M1 Garand serial number 23744xx, manufactured January 1944. Springfield barrel dated 1950 with a bright bore. Other major parts on this M1 are Winchester: bolt, trigger housing, op rod, and safety. No import marks. Stock is new walnut.
This Garand has been disassembled, cleaned, lubricated, and test fired. Parts were clean for photos, coated with oil and greased where appropriate when reassembled.
Two M1 enbloc clips (no ammo) and canvas repro sling are included.
Winchester M1 sn 23744xx Specs:
Receiver: marked “D28291-2” on leg. Misc. assembly markings on several surfaces underneath. Excellent condition, absolutely no pitting. Lettering/serial are sharp, original finish shows considerable wear. Receiver legs have rough machining marks, typical for Winchester.
Barrel: marked “S-A-8-50” in op rod slot with “M” and “S”, “D6535448-37-M-1”, with small crossed cannons stamp. External finish in good condition other than the expected wear in contact areas, no pitting. The bore is bright, rifling good. Chrome pads at gas port.
Barrel Gauge Measurements: Muzzle Erosion (ME): 2, Throat Erosion (TE): 3
Op rod: slant cut side, marked “D35382 W.R.A”, modified. Very good condition with some finish wear, no pitting
Op rod catch: late type, unmarked
Bullet guide: WWII milled type with punch mark
Clip latch: late square front type, unmarked
Follower: marked “11”
Follower arm: no bevel
Follower rod: long fork, riveted
Bolt: marked “D28287-1 W.R.A.”, with hole in underside. Headspace is exactly right, not always the case with WRA bolts.
Sight knobs: T105 postwar type, elevation marked “VAR”, windage unmarked other than “LEFT”
Rear sight cover: late type with ribs
Rear sight aperture: double track
Trigger housing: marked “D28290 W.R.A.”, large pad, cloverleaf hole. Very good condition, no pitting, has finish wear
Trigger guard: stamped with stamped hook
Trigger: late type, no extra hole
Hammer spring plunger: late type without wings
Hammer: marked “C46008-5 SA”
Safety: flat top, marked “WRA-1”
Gas cylinder: wide sight platform, flat on top of rear ring. The gas cylinder group has been refinished. The gas cylinder/barrel fit has been tightened to maximize accuracy.
Front sight: 0.65 wide
Gas cylinder lock: beveled front type, unmarked
Gas cylinder lock screw: cross slot poppet valve type, marked “P” and “X”
Stock and handguards: new, walnut, nice finish
Sling: new repro
