Description:
L.C. Smith Field Grade 16 Gauge SxS
U.S. ARMED FORCES ISSUE, EJECTORS, UNFIRED, 99.5% FACTORY

General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1941, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 11oz, Side-by-Side
Serial Number: FWE190439

There is no shortage of L.C. Smith Field Grade 16ga. guns.  They made 38,678 of them.  HOWEVER, LESS THAN 1%, OR 3400 OF THEM HAD EJECTORS.  HOW MANY DO YOU THINK REMAIN UNFIRED AND IN NEAR NEW CONDITION.  Likely not a hundred or so.  Just breaking down how special this gun is, it is a new, unfired, ejector L.C. Smith, with 99.5% factory original case color, blue, and wood finish, AND MAY BE THE ONLY KNOWN U.S. ARMED FORCES ISSUED L.C. SMITH IN 16GA.!  I have researched the three main reference books written on the L.C. Smith gun from Brophy, Houchins, and James Stubbendieck.  Each of them reference the stamping on the bottom of the barrels of a handful of guns delivered to the U.S. Ordnance department in the period leading up to WWII, 1940 and 1941, that stamping being USA-F.  Some believe it to mean U.S. Air Force, others U.S. Armed Forces, but all agree guns with that stamping were amongst those delivered to the U.S. Armed forces to train anit-aircraft gunners how to lead a moving target.  Mostly done on a skeet field to teach the concept, there are also stories of driving in moving trucks trying to hit clay targets thrown from the truck.  Don’t try that one at home!  These “ORDNANCE” guns are highly valued, especially by those that have a penchant for militaria, and to find one in 16ga. new and unfired is an amazing treasure.  The gun is crisp and new mechanically, but does have some minor handling marks from safe storage and assembling.  There are no, none, zero primer marks on the standing breech around the firing pin holes, indicating an unfired gun.  Look at the photos…THIS IS NOT A RESTORED GUN!  An amazing find, with good shooting dimensions, and offered at a price that is affordable to most.  Thanks for looking and don’t miss this great opportunity to own a rare L.C. Smith Field Grade ejector gun in new condition with U.S. markings!
