Description:

Inscribed on the receiver is the name "Jacob Rarick" and also "69th Ohio USVV 1865". It is believed that this is when he was mustered out of service. Something happened to him because it was reissued on July 15th 1865 to Christian Scholder. Not sure if Jacob Rarick died and the Army reissued the rifle or what happened. Gun is well documented with Springfield research forms as well as volunteer enlistment papers on both owners. A fine gun that has a shiny bore and some minor pitting. Original sights. Gun has a nice aged patina with a mustard color to the receiver. Outlining the receiver is a series of stars. I have seen this before on Civil War guns. I suspect the engraver was a locally unknown engraver as the work is less than average quality. Bbl blue has turned a pleasing plum brown with sharp corners and excellent marking. The receiver has sharp corners as well. Stock is better than average showing a light figure to the grain. Full to the metal with correct brass buttplate. Complete with orig sling swivels as well as a very rare sling with brass fixtures on both ends. The leather sling is in excellent condition. Rarely are these ever encountered since they usually go to pieces after awhile. Also included is a later style 4-piece cleaning rod. Gun is excellent throughout. A very interesting and historically significant gun!
