Antique Colt 1877 LIGHTNING Double Action Revolver
Famously Used by Billy the Kid, Made in 1883
Here we present an antique Colt 1877 Lightning Double Action Revolver, made in 1883. The Model 1877 was Colt’s first venture into double action revolvers. It was quite successful, selling 166,849 from 1877 through 1909, primarily in .38 and .41 calibers. Nonetheless, there was some hesitation to move away from the single action mechanism, which had so proven itself. Famous adopters of the Lightning were William “Billy the Kid” Bonney and John Wesley Hardin, two legendary names of the American West.
This specimen features a very nice nickel finish as well as an ejector rod, something that was left off other variants of this model. The hard rubber grips feature the rampant colt. This is a very nice little revolver.
This specimen is in fine condition. The original nickel finish is about 90%. Markings are clear and legible. All serial numbers match. Grips are in good condition, showing some use. The bore has strong rifling and is shiny. The action is functional, but the trigger return spring is in need of repair, which is not uncommon in this model.
