Purdey Gun # 17977 *****SOLD*****
Very rare, Sub-gauge, Purdey 16 bore “Best Quality” Game Gun: Built 1903 as a bespoke, side lock ejector, double trigger 16 bore with properly scaled-to-gauge, self-opening, Beesley action frame complete with rare “Arrow” cocking indicators. Gun has undergone a no-expense-spared, first class re-stock with a highly figured, period-correct piece of French walnut and has very shootable modern dimensions. Stock & fore end both are proud of metal with perfect inletting and have flawless, razor-sharp checkering with a beautiful multi-coat oil finish. Stock has checkered butt and retains original & proper Silver initial plate. Action, locks & fore end iron retain most of their factory original metal finishes and the majority of their beautiful & original vintage case color. Full coverage “Best” engraving is exquisite. Barrels and trigger guard have been expertly burnished, lettering & engraving perfectly re-cut and properly re-blacked with excellent screws throughout.
- 27” Chopper-Lump barrels of which factory records confirm are choked Cyl / M . Bores in proof at .663 per side with original 1 oz. proof marks and 2.5" chambers.
- Mechanically excellent, smack on the face and balanced perfectly. This is as nice a Purdey 16 as you will encounter. It is incredibly rare to find a gun of this vintage with bores and chokes that are essentially the same as the day the gun left the factory. Gun is sharp all around and is a well-cared for, un-molested, high condition vintage firearm. Anything better should stay in the case.
-This is the ultimate shooter 16, choked perfectly for Bobwhites and Doves. Recommend loads: RST “Paper-lite”, 1 oz. #8 in 2.5” length. (rstshells)
NOTE: As to the rarity of this gun: At this point, mid 2017 there is only one other Purdey 16 bore ejector gun out of hundreds of guns listed for sale on the entire worldwide market making this the rarest gauge currently available.
