AUSTRIAN Antique Model 1842 Percussion Musket
With Unit Markings on the Butt Plate
Here we present an antique Austrian Model 1842 Percussion Musket, made circa the 1840s. The Model 1842 was originally made with the Augustin Percussion firing system. Some of these were sold as surplus and imported during the early years of the American Civil War.
This example’s lock is marked with an Austrian acceptance mark. This musket is littered with numbers, with a particular marking “2C/11” appearing to be a unit marking.
The overall condition is fair. The metal surfaces have been polished. Most of the markings remain clear and legible. The stock has been shortened, either because of damage to the fore stock or out of convenience. Bore is rifled and in decent shape. The action is strong.
