PERKINS Antique Percussion Hammer Shotgun
10 Gauge Circa 1850s British Import to U.S.
Here we present an antique Perkins Double Barrel Hammer Percussion Shotgun, made circa the 1850s, in Birmingham, England. Then, like today, shotguns were highly valued tools, especially for hunting and protection. In the absence of many makers of shotguns in the United States, many were imported from Europe, especially from Great Britain and Belgium.
This example is British and bears the proof marks under the barrel as well as “10” on each barrel for the bore. Each side of the lock is marked “PERKINS”. The top of the barrel is marked “LONDON FINE TWIST”.
This specimen is in good overall condition. The metal has been cleaned. The markings are still clear and legible. The stock has been lightly sanded and has a hairline crack behind the lock. The bores are in good condition. the action is strong.
