#4907, William Moore & Grey, 165 Piccadilly, London W.: A Moore & Grey 12 Bore Bar Action Sidelock Ejector Built about 1902, In 1954 a new set of barrels were installed and proved in Birmingham at 3 tons, They are 30" Barrels with a Dolls Head plus a Third Bite and remain almost as new, Dovetail lump barrels at .728 .007 & .037" (Imp. Cyl. & Full), 2 1/2" chambers, Proved in Birmingham at 3 Tons, Double triggers, Frontal Anson forend release, Splinter forend, Straight hand stock at 15 x 1 3/4 x 3 1/16" over a full face checkered butt, A lot of cast-off for the right hand, 6 lbs. 12 oz., 95% of period scroll engraving, The wood is excellent with deep black & brown contrast, The barrel blue since it was rebarreled remains at 96%, The wood reoiled and now at 98%, The checkering is at 100%, The bores are excellent plus and remain as new, The barrels have a very pronounced chime, It is cased in a leather trimmed leather trunk by Brady and it remains in very nice condition. If you like these stock dimensions and a lot of cast-off, this piece comes to the hand with ease and point's great. //////////////////////////////////////////// In the early part of the 19th century William Moore was a stocker for Joseph Manton. In 1829 he opened a stock making business in Birmingham and in 1838 it became Moore & Harris. By 1847 he joined with William Parker Grey and it became Wm. Moore & Grey in London. By 1873 it became William Moore, Grey & Co. Then in 1896 the firm moved to 165 Piccadilly (The address of this gun) and in 1917 William Moore & Grey ceased to trade under their own name.
