Description:
This was Remington's first revolver and they were only made for a total of two years, 1857 and 1858.  It is an extremely small, (only 7 inches from the muzzle to the back of the grips) and it has a unique outside-mounted hand that rotates the cylinder.  This is the first one that we have ever seen that is cased with the bullet mold, powder flask, and cap tin.  The case is contemporary to the pistol, but has likely been re-lined at some point in the last 50 years or so.  The revolver is in very good original condition with areas of original bright blue finish still present on the barrel, with the balance of the metal showing as a blue/brown patina.  The original gutta-percha grips are in excellent condition, free from cracks or repairs and showing very little wear.  The bore is average, there is some light pitting scattered throughout and the rifling is worn but still visible.  The mechanics of this Remington Beals 1st Model work perfectly.  The hammer still has the safety position and the full cock position, the cylinder still rotates "in time" when the action is worked, and the trigger breaks cleanly and resets properly.  The Remington company was, and still is, one of the major American firearm manufacturing firms, and this cased revolver is very significant in that it was their very first mass produced revolver sold to the general public.  This would be an excellent addition to any antique American arms collection, and it would be very hard to upgrade from this example.
