This 1974 vintage Colt Python is in nearly perfect, minty condition. Only one chamber appears to have been fired, and that was likely when it was test fired before leaving the factory in 1974. It is truly a stunning and classy looking revolver and it is easy to see why Pythons have increased in value so rapidly since they were discontinued. Many wheelgun enthusiasts and collectors consider the Python the finest mass production revolver ever made. One only needs to examine one and feel the action that was hand fit by one highly trained Colt gunsmith to see why they have developed that reputation. Despite modern machining techniques that use tolerances that were unheard of during the Python's production run, no one has been able to replicate such a perfected double action revolver as the Python. The Python listed for sale here is a factory nickel finish gun, a finish option that was discontinued in 1985. Nickel finish Python's are especially sought-after and are the epitome of excellent fit and finish when they are as nice as this one. The original checkered Walnut grips are also in excellent condition. The checkering is still crisp and the Rampant Colt medallions are nice and tight to the grips. The bore is perfect in this Python, it shows no signs of having been fired, wear, or erosion. The rifling is still nice and clean with sharp lands and grooves. The cylinder bores are likewise just as bright and clean. As mentioned before the cylinder face shows no signs of cleaning or polishing, only a faint carbon halo on one of the bores. If you have been looking for a collector-grade nickel finish Colt Python, this 4-inch model would be nearly impossible to improve upon and an excellent addition to your collection.
