These little pocket sized Open Top Revolvers were some of Colt's earliest cartridge pistols. They were made to fire .22 Shorts and .22 Longs, and they were manufactured from 1871 to 1877. They were fairly well received by the gun buying public, and routinely carried for self defense by good guys and bad guys alike. This example is one of the best preserved all-original specimens we have ever seen. The beautiful original factory nickel finish rates a solid 96%, with some very small handling marks/scratches accrued sometime during the last 142 years. The bright "fire blue" hammer, trigger, and grip screw still show beautifully and provide a nice contrast to the mirror-like nickel finish. The original smooth Walnut grips have nearly perfect original varnish and show very little wear of any kind. The bore is mostly bright with well defined rifling, but has some scattered pitting likely due to poor storage without gun oil of some kind. Everything works just like the day it left the Colt factory. The action turns "in-time" and locks up properly, and the hammer still cocks at both the safety position and full cock. The spur style trigger still breaks cleanly and returns to the proper position when released. It would be very hard to find a nicer example of this 142 year old Colt Open Top!
