Description:
For sale, a beautiful WW2 M1 Carbine manufactured by the IBM Corporation.  IBM-made M1 Carbines have long been sought after for a variety of reasons, one of them being the nostalgia that a company that ended up being known world-wide for making computers actually made carbines for the war effort.  This is a first block production carbine made sometime in the early part of 1944.  The serial number is 3,896,025.  It has been made 100% correct in that all of the parts in the gun match the guide in the reference book Comprehensive Guide M1 Carbine written by R.C. Larson.  It was likely rebuilt at some point post-WW2 or after the Korean War and eventually sold off to the civilian market by the DCM, whereupon someone decided to return it to the configuration it left the IBM factory in during World War 2.  The "U" on the left side of the stock tells us that it was either rebuilt or "Check & Test" by an arsenal post war.  Interestingly this IBM still has a high wood stock, and the barrel doesn't show any signs of ever having the later barrel band with the built-on bayonet lug installed.  This is a very nice looking M1 Carbine with lots of original parkerizing, the correct blued flat bolt, and a nicely colored and matched stock and handguard.  The stock and handguard are both stamped "JL-B" which stands for Jamestown Lounge Company, a primary WW2 supplier of stocks for IBM.  The bore is also very nice on this IBM with sharp lands and grooves on the rifling and just a touch of frosting.  Everything works 100% like it did when it left the factory.  All of the controls work as they were intended to, and you could take this carbine to the range with no reservations about safety or function.  If you have been looking for a very nice carbine that is a perfect working example of how it was issued in WW2, then this IBM would be a great addition to your collection.
