Description:
Mississippi Rifle Model 1841 US percussion rifle aka “Mississippi rifle” 15-84

Marked N. Haven, 1853, marked on the back of the lock, marked “E. Whitney” on the middle of the
lock. 54 caliber, 33” round barrel bore has 40-50 of the rifling, wear corrosion, proof markings on
barrel “J.H.VP”. Stock has the feint remnants of a cartouche, normal dings, dents, scratches, with a
small piece missing near the rear of the lock plate. The rifle has browned barrel, case-hardened lock
and hammer and brass furniture with the distinctive large brass patchbox with place for spare nipple.
Metal is very clean with almost no corrosion on lock, the barrel has light corrosion on its length.
The stock is oil-finished walnut. The M1841 rifle is often referred to as the “Mississippi Rifle”
for its use by the 1st Mississippi Regiment led by Jefferson Davis at the Battle of Buena Vista in
The Mexican War. The M1841 was continually modified and saw extensive service in both services
with both Federal and Confederate forces during the first years of the Civil War. A solid example
 of a dated M1841 Rifle.
