Description:
I bought this Burgess shotgun because I have never had one.  In fact, I don't remember seeing one either.  These were produced for a short time.  Total production of the shotgun, folding shotgun, and rifle is only a few thousand.  Winchester bought our Burgess in 1899.  Markings on the barrel are complete, original, and easy to see.  Markings on the dust cover are complete as well.  Both areas are pictured.  The action is very unique.  Burgess came up with a pump which would not infringe on other patents.  The grip area is the slide, not the forearm.  There is a slide release on the forward area of the trigger guard.  You push the release forward with your shooting finger while pulling the pistol grip slide to the rear.  Just like the standard pump shotgun, when you pull the slide rearward a shell is extracted.  When you push the slide forward a new shell is chambered.  Bore in the 30" damascus barrel is bright and shiny.  It is in excellent condition.  No issues.  It will rate an easy eight on a one to ten scale.  Action works perfectly and is very tight.  This is a takedown.  The barrel fits very tightly to the receiver.  There is no movement.  Some original finish still remains as shown in the pictures.  You can still see the damascus pattern on the barrel.  The gutta-percha type pistol grip is excellent with no cracks or chips.  Wood to metal fit is excellent.  Wood is nice and shows normal use.  It is original and untouched.  As you will see in the pictures, the only issue is with the butt.  There is a sliver missing as well as a small portion of the original Burgess Gun Co dog head butt plate.  This area is clearly shown so you will have no surprises.  You will like this very interesting and rare Burgess 12 gauge shotgun.  It will make a great addition to any collection.  Please email me for additional pictures.  American Arms & Antiques item #1823
