Description:

Antique Manton Percussion Double Barrel Shotgun

Famed Maker of Fine Flintlock and Percussion Guns

Here we present an antique Manton Percussion Double Barrel Shotgun, made circa 1830s by the Manton family. John Manton was born in 1752 and set up his gun-making shop in Picadilly in 1781, after his apprenticeship. His younger brother, Joseph, was perhaps more famous for his craft and worked for his brother after his own apprenticeship, before going onto employ such as James Purdey, yet another famous name in fine English guns. John Manton began making percussion guns as early as 1825 and then died in 1834, leaving the business to his son, George.

This specimen is in good overall condition. Each side of the lock shows the name “Manton”. The walnut stock has been refinished. Several screws have been replaced. The bores are in good condition. The action is strong.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrels are 29-7/8 inches in length.

Caliber: 12 gauge

Overall condition as seen in photos.
