Large EUROPEAN Antique SHARPS PEPPERBOX Pistol
Marked “CALIBRE 9 MILIMS”
Here we present an antique Four Barreled Pepperbox Pistol, made circa the late 19th Century, in Europe. This unique pistol was made in the likeness of Christian Sharps’ famous invention, which utilized a four-chambered barrel cluster with a revolving firing pin. This pistol was made to serve as a concealed carry option for self-defense during the tumultuous 19th Century. This is quite similar to a Spanish-made Sharps Pepperbox that we have in our collection.
This specimen is an up-sized version of Sharps’ normal product offerings, and chambered for a larger cartridge. However, it is not an exact copy, as it features a radically different styling, grip angle, access to the breech and an ejector.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark and somewhat pitted. Markings are legible. The grips are fair. The bores are clean with sharp rifling. The action is strong, with functional rotating firing pin.
