Serial number 5438xxx dates to about 1954. SA 10-54 barrel with bright bore. No import marks. This Garand is in excellent used condition, original finish with no pitting. Postwar Springfield stock is is also excellent, with stars & eagle stamp. We test fired this M1 at 100 yards, watch our video at our YouTube channel Fernwood Armory TV. The rifle has been disassembled, cleaned and lubricated. Parts were clean for photos, coated with oil and greased where appropriate when reassembled. Two M1 enbloc clips (no ammo) and sling are included. Springfield M1 sn 5438xxx Specs: Receiver: marked “F 6528291” on leg, heat lot Z10. Excellent condition, no pitting, almost no finish wear. Barrel: marked “SA F6535448 10 54 A216B” in op rod slot, with several “P” marks, punch mark, “T” and small stars and eagle stamp. Bore is bright like new, excellent crown and rifling. Chamber is in the white. Barrel Gauge Measurements: Muzzle Wear (MW): 1, Throat Erosion (TE): 3 Barrel band: two-piece flat top with roll pin Clip latch: late square front type. Op rod: flat side, marked “6535382 SA” Op rod catch: late type, unmarked Bullet guide: stamped with notch Follower: late type, unmarked Follower arm: no bevel, unmarked Follower rod: long fork, riveted Bolt: marked “6528287-SA A15” Sight knobs: elevation “NHC”, windage “DRC” Rear sight cover: late type with ribs Rear sight aperture: double track Trigger housing: marked “6528290-SA”, no pitting. Trigger guard: stamped with stamped hook Trigger: late type, no extra hole Hammer: marked “SA D5546008” Hammer spring plunger: late type without wings Safety: round top, marked “SA 11” Gas cylinder: wide sight platform, flat on top of rear ring marked “5”. Gas cylinder group finish is very good, only a few scratches. The gas cylinder/barrel fit has been tightened to maximize accuracy. Gas cylinder lock: late “high hump” type, unmarked Gas cylinder screw: cross slot, poppet valve type marked “O” Stock: walnut, postwar SA, very tight lockup. Circled “P” on pistol grip, DAS (stars and eagle) on left side. No cracks, about average dings/scratches, very nice appearance. Lockup is very tight. Handguards: walnut, same condition as stock, good color match Buttplate: round plunger type, good condition with finish wear. Sling: used, commontype, marked “MRT MAY 52” outside, and with 2 words in ball point, presumably someone’s name, in Greek (probably). Accessories: cleaning rod kit, oiler, grease pot TERMS: Payment
