PENDING SALE-This is an unusual rifle; a double rifle in 308 Winchester. It is an original build, when Merkel doubles were chopper-lump designs instead of today's cheaper monobloc construction. The older rifles also have blade front sights and notch rears, like handgun sights, which I find to be much more accurate than the round ball and v-groove sights on most doubles.
I'm not sure if this rifle has ever been fired. The breech face is spotless and the muzzles are still dark blue. The action is still stiff, and the finish flawless
In addition to hunting Deer, Hogs, and other small to medium game, this rifle has another purpose. If you use a large-caliber double rifle for hunting Africa, you know that ammunition expense and heavy recoil make practice shooting impractical. With this rifle, you can shoot boxes of ammunition at a session to build familiarity and to improve your open-sight skills.
